For academic integrity and to maintain a fair learning environment, a typing pattern is used to verify identity using keyboard biometric data. This enables exam access. Your pattern is unique to you, matching your specific typing cadence and speed.
Learner first encounter the typing pattern during the Identity Verification portion of their profile creation. Enter the phrase highlighted in yellow, then click "Go to Next Step."
The pattern will then need to be re-entered once more.
Moving forward, the typing pattern will be used to access any Milestone as a form of identity verification. (NOTE: After entering your typing pattern to access a Milestone, do not press Enter or Return on your keyboard to progress. Click "Continue.")
If there verification is successful, you may continue to the Milestone exam.
Troubleshooting Verification Issues
The typing pattern can be impacted by several variables, including but not limited to:
- Speed and rhythm of the typing
- Frequent errors when entering the pattern, such as hitting the space bar too often
- Hitting the Enter or Return keys when typing the pattern
After the first two attempts at the typing pattern, learners will be offered the option to verify identity via SMS (text message). When this option is selected, a unique code will be sent to your phone number. From there, enter the code when prompted on the Sophia webpage. You should then be able to access the Milestone.
(PLEASE NOTE: The phone number in your profile is used, and the SMS unlock option is only available to learners with a U.S.-based phone number.)
